The MET | Artlink

The Metropolitan Museum of Art (“The Met”) in New York City is one of the world's largest and most prestigious art museums, showcasing over 5,000 years of global art with over 2 million works of art in their collections. For their first on-chain foray, TRLab created Art Links, a web-based puzzle game combining art history with a digital and in-person reward system.

Art Links is a blockchain-based game where players discover connections between artworks in The Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection. This serialized game features over 140 works from across the museum. In the game, players are tasked with creating chains by finding art-based connections between artworks. In return, they can claim free NFT Badges and earn Achievements by completing in-game challenges. Art Links is The Met’s first-ever web3-based experience created in partnership with TRLab.

Each week across 12 weeks, Art Links players are asked to find the connecting qualities or themes between a unique series of artworks. No prior art history knowledge is required, as the answers can be found either within the artwork visual or the provided artifact history. In this way, players are invited to dig deeper into each artwork’s background to make progress in the game.
